Internet Generosity

IE Day encourages churches and other groups to focus on digital creativity during May, at any level they choose. As a minimum, IE Day can be featured in a church bulletin, so that members can investigate its resource website. Alternatively, focus spots can be created during meetings using IE Day?s free downloadable video clips or PowerPoint, or even perform a drama sketch that relates to online creativity. Two new video-clip resource sites could be showcased live by projection, to demonstrate how to add an evangelistic video to Facebook with one click. These videos can also be downloaded to a mobile phone to share face-to-face.

IE Day’s site includes pages on using mobile phones creating ‘outsider-friendly’ church websites and introductory videos, social networking, how to blog or build a website, and much else.

Generosity Incarnate

Tucked away in the backstreets of our mega-cities are special saints serving various folk in critical need. Such stories are rarely told but some have surfaced and been vividly exposed in well written books. Two such stories are “There’s no me without You” and “The Hospital by the River” available on Amazon.

Such stories are impacting and require much processing. They are very ably written and give one a vivid insight into suffering often not reported in the regular press. Both are Ethiopia-based. Do trust you will be able to read them.

These key characters display a high level of generosity and are as it were living examples of what true generosity looks like in action.

The Generous Race

The World Race – 11 Countries 11 Months

Have you ever wondered if there’s something more out there? If there’s more to life than empty traditions, routines, and working 9-5 everyday to achieve the impossibility of the American dream?

It’s because there is. There is a generation of radicals whose heartbeat is to see a changed world. It’s a generation that’s dissatisfied with the status quo and is actively rising to the challenge of seeing the world transformed through tangible expressions of God’s love. World Racers are seeing lives changed in nations all over the world.

What World Racers are saying

It has been a wild ride. I will never be the same. My heart has forever been touched, I am being molded and formed, and I cannot go back to who I was before. Eric Hanson, January 2007

While on the World Race, God put a love inside of me that I didn’t even know existed. I loved on the rich, poor, elderly, sick, orphans, prostitutes, homeless, university students, host families and my own community. What impacted me the most was living in community and fellowship with people of different nations, culture, and skin color, and coming together while worshiping and praising the same God. It is then that you experience the power of God uniting the nations together in His name and for His glory. I have never experienced something so beautiful. Stephanie Tyrna, January 2009

The art and practice of teaching is being restored for me throughout this journey as I strive to understand more of how God sees me. He is a loving Father that restores what has been ruined, redeems what has been lost, and reenergizes where passion has left. My former occupation is not the only beneficiary of this divine interjection. Relationships with friends and families are being deepened. My growing understanding of the church as a beautiful bride is captivating to my mind, heart, and soul. Implementation of known and new strengths is invigorating yet humbling. Weston Belkot, October 2009

Generosity in Business

In November 2000 a journey began in the City of London, when a handful of businessmen organised a conference at the Gibson Hall which was to profoundly challenge and change the lives of many people. So powerful was that gathering that A Call to Business was breathed into life by demand, moving forward from one event on a journey that has changed lives and is now blazing its way around the globe.

Business people are blessed with many gifts – risk taking, analytical capacity, vision, drive and the ability to manage many roles among them. However, when these gifts are out of balance and with perspectives that are not Godly, over time we may become burnt out and disillusioned, or at least ‘stuck’ in a place from which we may need to move on. One of the main objectives of A Call to Business is to see people transitioning from ‘survival mode’, i.e. how to cope with pressure and daily demands, to ‘transformation mode’, being able to influence our businesses and those around us for God.

Basic to our message is the desire to see key Biblical principles understood and applied in everyday life, to be open to the Holy Spirit’s leading at every moment in any day. We see the Bible’s exhortation to “take dominion” as a mandate to build the Kingdom of God here on earth, here and now. We have been building relationships with those in the marketplace who have a faith and hope in Jesus and long to see that faith applied in their lives every day. We have also been building relationship with traditional church leaders who desire to equip and ‘send’ people into all the spheres of authority. We hold seminars, have workplace groups meeting each week and occasionally larger conferences. We produce films and write articles. We come alongside other business people to help them grow their businesses with a different perspective on wealth creation and Kingdom building.

Many people are receiving their own revelation and applying those insights and principles, seeing their own lives and businesses changed. Fruitfulness would include:
•A strong sense that the working environment is ‘church’ as believers pray and plan together
•Holy Spirit encounters, seeing staff and clients sensing something so different in behaviours that an openness to the Gospel prevails
•Those who are hard-hearted towards Jesus often moving on
•Business owners, seeing the stark reality of being ‘unequally yoked’ and breaking ties with the past
•Growing generosity
•Excitement prevailing instead of fear
•Wealth creation with a desire to use the wealth in wholly new ways and not simply to personally add to savings or assets
•A new understanding of security

In addition to our roles in the business arena business people also have a unique perspective of global events. Through international travel and trading we can see events unfolding in the natural that reflect the supernatural. In A Call to Business we spend time visiting other nations, taking the message of servant leadership and non-hierarchical structure to other streams of business, but also bringing practical support in terms of time, money or skills to the emerging world. In particular God has opened an amazing door into Sierra Leone.

This is a fantastically exciting journey, punctuated by resistance and hardship… but we knew that didn’t we?!

Rescuing Generously

The Kids Alive Difference

Kids Alive International takes a unique approach to caring for needy children around the world.

The children we help are almost always orphans or abandoned and in great need. But we do much more than provide food and shelter. We invest in every part of a child’s life – bringing him or her into a “family” with other children, under the care of committed Christian house parents.

In that family-style environment we can provide safety, social stability, education, hope for a productive life and – most importantly – the Christian witness and encouragement needed to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

In all our ministries we seek to:

•Rescue at-risk children, especially the orphans and abandoned.
•Break the cycle of poverty by creating hope and practical opportunities for a better life.
•Provide for spiritual needs by sharing the transforming power of Jesus Christ.
•Restore communities, helping children and whole villages by encouraging leadership and self-reliance.

In these ways, we seek to have the children in our care become responsible adult citizens – the people God wants them to be – through five major types of ministry outreach:

Residential Homes. Kids Alive provides homes for orphans and abandoned children, creating family units of “brothers and sisters” with their own Christian house parents.

Care Centers. Through our Care Centers, Kids Alive is able to supply many of the services provided in our residential homes – food, medical care, Christian witness and education – to many more children who are not full-time residents.

Schools. Education gives our residential home children a more promising future, and it’s also a way Kids Alive can bring opportunity and hope to other children in the wider communities where we work.

Advanced Education. Many of our residential and school children show the abilities to continue in their education. Whenever possible, we assist these teens to finish high school and beyond.

Medical Clinics. Basic medical care is a primary need, so Kids Alive has built clinics in some of the places where we serve, both for our residential children and for others in local communities.

Specialized Community Outreach. Kids Alive sometimes addresses special needs requiring tailored ministry approaches – such as relief responses, programs to help street kids in larger cities, or supporting single mothers or grandmothers as they care for their children or grandchildren.

Families Together. The new Families Together initiative allows Kids Alive to reach out and help many more starving children…right in their own home! We provide support to a poor single parent, grandparent or other relative, caring for their child or grandchild, by caring for the needs of the child and family.

Network of Generosity

Global Aid Network operates through three key strategies:

Relief Assistance – responding to catastrophic disasters and providing ongoing humanitarian relief through aid distribution including food, water filtration systems and hygiene kits.

Development – providing training and resources to promote lasting and ongoing efforts such as agricultural projects, water wells and medical clinics. Our Compassionate Care Unit addresses the emotional, social, and spiritual well-being of people following disasters and crisis events.

Mobilization – organizing people, churches, and other agencies both nationally and internationally to partner with us through advocacy programs, campus initiatives and mission trip teams.

Where we work:

Originally started in 1991 as a humanitarian project to the former Soviet Union, Global Aid Network is now overseeing projects in more than 30 countries and has distributed greater than $200 million worth of aid and mobilized more than 12,000 short-term mission participants to foreign lands.

Saving Generously

Carpooling to work will save money, reduce toxic fumes, and lower your stress level. For a 40-mile round-trip commute, you could save $2,726 in one year. In fact, if every American commuter shared a ride to work, we could save 600,000 gallons of gas every day!

Looking for other options? Try taking public transportation, biking, or working from home. Another options growing in popularity is to extend your weekend by switching to a 4-day work week.
